MARIE BROWN
Marie Brown is a Minnesota-based ceramic artist who has worked with clay for over two decades. Trained at the University of Wisconsin–Stout, where she earned her BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in ceramics, Marie’s practice is rooted in functional forms and a deep commitment to material exploration.
Her career has encompassed a range of firing methods—from cone 10 gas and electric to soda and wood firing—each shaping her evolving aesthetic. Years spent working in a tile studio refined her glaze knowledge, while her off-grid wood kiln, built with her husband in rural Pine County, reflects her dedication to sustainability and craftsmanship.
Following an injury that temporarily halted her wheel work, Brown began creating mobiles from hand built components, developing a distinct appreciation for unglazed surfaces. Now back at the wheel, she continues to explore the interplay of form, slip, and raw clay, allowing each shift in her life and process to inform the work.
